I wish there were more of these. How can you be grumpy in the morning when there is awesome music and dancing on your train?
London commuters got a little free entertainment on the tube the other day when a group of people got out of their seats and busted out Michael Jackson's "Thriller." They performed the routine and then sat down like nothing ever happened.
A spokesperson for the London transport system said, "There are clearly occasions, like this, when everyone enjoys being entertained by some talented people. There are other occasions where inconsiderate behavior can spoil a journey for other passengers. Our message is simply that a little consideration to your fellow passengers can make a real difference to everyone." Isn't that the truth!
These tube dancers are hot, but they don't have anything on those prisoners in the Philippines.

Somebody's Getting Married....
This weekend we were in NJ and NY
On Saturday, I met up with Brooke and a few of her bridesmaids to try on dresses. Thank goodness for GPS, because the roads of New Jersey are not my friends.
Despite some very different body-types and skin colorings, I think we managed to find some fantastic gowns and come to a consensus on our top picks. No pictures here… it’s got to be a surprise, people!
While I was involved with my taffeta and satin, David spent time with his parents and picked up a few things for our upcoming ski trip. Thanks Fran and Dov!
Later that afternoon, David and I drove to Long Island and set up mom’s new wine fridge before meeting Hayley and Shawn for an engagement celebration dinner.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine dinner at Lavandou
Last night we participated in a Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine dinner at Lavandou, a wonderful french restaurant in DC. This was a great dinner for the two of us because CdP is one of the few wines that we both agree on most of the time. We also met some really fun people.
We had some amazing wines and delicious food, but I think the best part of the whole evening was when David said that he will always associate the smell of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with our honeymoon.

light straw color, mushroom earthy nose, taste of slight mineral, creamy mouthfeel, elegant and full bodied. long finish (David said that if he had not seen the wine before tasting it, he might think this was a red)

Movie Madness
Last month, someone asked us what movie we had most recently seen in a theater. We thought about it for way too long- we’ve seen a lot of movies on demand recently, but soon came to the embarrassing conclusion that the last movie we had seen in an actual theater was The Namesake, which came out in September 2006. Yikes.
Since then, I’ve been on a mission to make up for lost time, and have gone to see 3 moves in the last 2 weeks; Juno, Charlie Wilson’s War and 27 Dresses. No spoilers here, I promise…
I saw Juno with Fara last week. Thoughts? Funny, smart and well written.
“Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual decision regarding her unborn child.” Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody the movie is about a high school student named Juno MacGuff who discovers she is nine weeks pregnant by her close friend Paulie Bleeker.
It won 2 Critic's Choice Awards: Best Comedy Film and Best Writer, and is nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay at this year’s Academy Awards. What I think is cool is the fact that it was made in 20 days on a budget of $7.5 million. It has gone on to make more than ten times that amount.
Heather and I saw Charlie Wilson’s War when David and I were up in PA last weekend. Thoughts? I love Aaron Sorkin and the tagline: A stiff drink. A little mascara. A lot of nerve. Who said they couldn't bring down the Soviet empire .
“Urged on by his staunchly anti-communist friend and romantic interest, Joanne Herring, Wilson leads the effort to provide United States funds indirectly to the Afghan Mujahideen.”
The film is directed by Mike Nichols, written by Aaron Sorkin, and stars Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Ned Beatty. It was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, including "Best Motion Picture", but didn't win in any category.
It was great to see this movie with another former Capitol Hill staffer. Aaron Sorkin hit it right on the head with this one.
Liz and I saw 27 Dresses in Georgetown this past weekend. Thoughts? Cute, a little predictable and very well cast

The film was directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, and stars Katherine Heigl James Marsden Edward Burns and Malin Akerman- but I thought Judy Greer stole the whole show.
This movie was cute and kind of predictable, but totally funny. Some of the weddings Jane attended include: A goth wedding, a traditional Japanese wedding, an Indian/ Jewish wedding, an underwater wedding, three "Gone with the Wind" theme weddings, "girls wore suits, guys wore dresses" wedding and a cowboy wedding

See you in the Super Bowl
My family has this long-running line about athletes who make last-minute plays to win championship games; “You are either a hero or a bum” Catch the crucial interception for a game-winning touchdown? He’s a hero! Miss the winning field goal? He’s a bum!
Lambeau Field was literally a rock-hard frozen tundra, and I’m sure I wouldn’t have made it 10 minutes out there. But Eli Manning somehow put the Giants in position to win the NFC championship and head to Arizona for the Super Bowl!
As we all know, Lawrence Tynes came through for us (at last) when he made the game winning 47-yard field goal. But this was only after missing a 43-yarder with 6:49 to go and then a potentially game winning 36-yarder at the end of regulation.
So After all is said and done, the Giants are going to the Super Bowl and Lawrence James Henry Tynes proved you can be both a hero and a bum!

Jenna, Henry Pick a Date- Continue Dynastic Planning
It has been reported that Jenna Bush and Henry Hager are going to make it official on May 10th at the famous Crawford brush ranch.
This ‘brush ranch’ is a gated, 1,600-acre Prairie Chapel ranch- far from rustic. At least they will have privacy. You might remember the couple's engagement was announced in August.
Hager, 29, is a former Commerce Department staffer in his final year of the MBA program at the University of Virginia's Darden School. He apparently asked the Prez for permission to marry his daughter on the overlook outside the president's cabin at Camp David. No pressure there!
For those with a really keen eye for detail, on May 10th is just a couple days after he takes his finals at Darden and eight days before he officially graduates. Guess we know who’s not helping with the wedding planning!

Heather & Jason, Cheesesteaks and (more) Giants
This weekend we visited Heather and Jason in PA. We started driving north on 95 after work, and stopped at the one and only Waffle House for dinner. Who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner?!

Originally founded to educate future doctors about anatomy and human medical anomalies, the museum is located at College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Today it is still educational, but visited by the public more than scientists to see its collection of medical oddities, anatomical and pathological specimens, wax models, and antique medical equipment.
Their “one-of-a-kind treasures” include:
The plaster cast torso of world-famous Siamese twins, Chang & Eng
A collection of 2,000 objects extracted from people's throats
The tallest skeleton on display in North America
A wax model of a woman with a human horn growing out of her forehead
A 5'-long human colon
The petrified body of the Soap Lady, whose corpse was turned into soap
A malignant tumor removed from President Cleveland's palate
A growth removed from President Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth
Heather was a GREAT sport through all of this. When we’d had enough of stuff in jars, we headed to Jim’s for cheesesteaks.
We waited on line for a bit, debated the merits of Wiz vs. Provolone, took some pictures (of course) and finally got our sandwiches. I’m proud to have had my first cheesesteak in Philly.
Thoughts? It was greasy, cheesy, meaty goodness on a roll! Deeee-lish!
We walked around a bit in the Italian market, took some silly pictures, saw the other philly food landmarks, bought provisions for dinner and headed home in time for the boys to catch the football games.

After a great dinner, Heather and I went to see Charlie Wilson’s War while David and Jason watched Green Bay crush Seattle and then New England beat Jacksonville. On Sunday we said goodbye to our amazing hosts and headed back to Maryland in time to watch San Diego’s surprising win over Indianapolis.

Later that evening, Mikey, Becky and Aaron came over to watch the only game that really mattered this weekend.
We celebrated the New York Giants beating the Dallas Cowboys with dinner at Haandi.
